The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will lose in the 2027 elections because of its partiality towards the Kano Emirate conflict.
The APC claims that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate, lacks the necessary popularity nationwide to become Nigeria’s president.
In an announcement made in Abuja on Monday, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the APC State Chairman, expressed that the party is now more cohesive, widely supported, and anticipates securing three times the number of votes it received in the previous presidential election in Kano state due to the shortcomings of the present state administration.
Abbas dismissed the NNPP Kano State Chairman’s claims that the Emirship dispute could harm President Bola Tinubu’s chances in 2027.
Instead, the APC leader said that the NNPP and its leader, Kwankwaso, will face the consequences of the ongoing Emirship crisis.
The APC chairman accused the NNPP of being frustrated in both the state and national politics, pointing out their failures and Kwankwaso’s poor performance in the 2023 presidential election.
He mentioned that Kwankwaso’s presidential bid was meant to test his popularity, stay relevant, advance his son-in-law’s interests, and regain control of Kano from the ruling APC.
Abbas highlighted that Kwankwaso’s performance in the 2023 election was very poor, receiving only 1,454,649 votes in total, which accounted for 6.23% of the votes, primarily from Kano.
He asked, “How come Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the opposition Labour Party from far away South East bested Kwankwaso in 13 northern states of Kaduna, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa and Benue?”
