Nigerian artist Simi has cleverly replied to her critics who called her out for wearing a swimsuit to a pool party despite being married.
On July 9, 2024, the singer humorously acknowledged the matter and expressed regret for donning a single-piece bathing suit through her Instagram profile.
“I just came here feeling repentant; yesterday I went to the swimming pool and I wore a swimsuit, guys, and I’m just so sorry,” Simi began, acknowledging the backlash. “Honestly, I just wasn’t thinking; I didn’t think.”
The singer jokingly said that she plans to wear a kaftan at the upcoming pool party she goes to.
She said, “My friend told me, ‘Sims, you can’t wear a swimsuit at the pool; you’re married’. I should have known better; I didn’t know better, and I’m sorry. Next time I go to the swimming pool, as a sign of respect to my husband, I will wear a kaftan. I will do better than the best. I don’t want to disappoint you”.
Similarly, she playfully urged both her supporters and critics to back her music in the midst of the dispute.
She said, “If nothing, please stream my album Lost and Found, because I was lost at the pool and now I’m found.”
Her fans, followers, and fellow celebrities joined in and left equally clever comments on her post.
Falz commented, “I cannot believe you. And you’re supposed to be a mother figure.”
Singer Teni commented, “Na damask you for wear”.
Media personality Isbae U commented, “I’m just glad you have learned your lessons. Next time you need to go to a pool, wear Dungarees Abeg or Abaya.”
Following the widespread circulation of her video from a pool party hosted by her friend on various social media platforms, a controversy arose.
In the video, she was observed participating in a lighthearted activity alongside other guests.
While some viewers found the video amusing and enjoyable, others criticized her for wearing a one-piece swimsuit and accused her of revealing her body inappropriately as a married woman.
