Tinubu directs stepdown of projects from previous administrations for review, funding

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of projects from previous administrations for possible reassessment and re-evaluation.

This directive was issued during a federal executive council (FEC) meeting, as reported by Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and national orientation, during a Wednesday press briefing in Abuja.

Idris stated that the president instructed the federal ministry of works to pause presenting certain projects to the FEC, allowing for a thorough review of those requiring additional funding and reassessment.

The council requested David Umahi, the minister of works, to work with Atiku Bagudu, the minister of budget and national planning, and Wale Edun, the minister of finance, to streamline and prioritize the projects listed in the memo for proper funding.

The information minister explained that Tinubu also ordered that all projects needing extra funds, as noted in the meeting, should be reconsidered at the next council meeting.

Idris clarified that these projects, inherited from previous administrations, are being reorganized and refined with an emphasis on ensuring their phased completion.

He highlighted that the Lagos-Calabar highway and other newly approved roads by the Tinubu administration are not among those needing additional funding. The decision to review and pause certain projects is not solely due to funding issues but also includes other considerations.

Idris emphasized that this review process does not equate to abandoning the projects. He noted that the adjustments and reassessments are not applicable to new projects, as these do not have issues requiring additional funding.
