The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has expressed concern about the lack of water supply in homes across the state during its visit to the Lagos State Water Corporation. The committee, led by Chairman Adebola Shabi, highlighted the issue and expressed their worries about the situation.
Chairman Adebola Shabi, leading the House Committee, expressed apprehension regarding the absence of water supply in a majority of households within the state. Shabi underlined the importance of the House taking action to safeguard the interests and rights of their constituents.
During the committee’s visit, Chairman Adebola Shabi requested a detailed report on the current infrastructure projects and the difficulties encountered by the Lagos State Water Corporation (LWC) in providing water supply. In response, the Managing Director of LWC, Mukhtaar Tijani, expressed his commitment to diligently working towards ensuring water supply to numerous households in the state.
Tijani highlighted the successful connection of the Baruwa Community to the Mosan Okunola Waterworks as an example of the measures taken to accomplish their objective.The Lagos State Water Corporation (LWC) faced challenges with customers’ reluctance to pay for subsidized water, as acknowledged by the Executive Director of Operations, Taiwo Omolanke. To ensure accountability, the LWC plans to implement metering for all customers.
During a recent cholera outbreak, the LWC assured residents that their supplied water is safe, advising against consuming water from uncertified sources to prevent health risks.
