Nigerian singer Davido has taken legal action against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, over custody of their daughter.
Davido is asking the Lagos State High Court for joint custody or unrestricted access to Imade, citing that he has been taking responsibility for Imade’s school fees and paying the rent for the apartment where they lived.
According to court documents, Davido has filed a lawsuit against Sophia Momodu, seeking joint custody of their daughter Imade Adeleke, citing frustration and difficulties in co-parenting.
Despite offering Sophia a house worth 200 million Naira to live in with their child, she declined and instead requested 5 million Naira annually for a Lagos apartment.
Moreso, Davido alleges that Sophia failed to inform him when Imade was absent from school for two weeks, citing car issues as the reason. He claims to have provided an additional car and 5 million Naira to repair the initial vehicle, resulting in Sophia having two cars at her disposal.
Furthermore Davido also accused Sophia Momodu of cruelty and frustration, and is seeking joint custody of their daughter Imade Adeleke, implying that he currently has limited access to her.
Despite initially appearing to be on good terms, with Davido attending Imade’s early milestone events, their relationship has deteriorated over the years.
Recently, Davido faced public criticism for his absence from Imade’s birthday, with Teebillz labeling him a “deadbeat dad”. Davido’s lawsuit suggests a breakdown in co-parenting and a desire for a more formal arrangement to ensure his involvement in Imade’s life.
