Date:

The Commissioners for Agriculture from the South-west states, together with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission, South-West Agricultural Company (SWAgCO) Limited (a subsidiary of Odu’a Investment Companies), and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), gathered for a strategic meeting.

The objective of the meeting was to devise effective strategies to enhance agriculture and food production in the South-west region within a limited timeframe.

Government officials from the South-West states, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, had a meeting at the DAWN Commission’s office in Ibadan.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to make the South-West states independent in producing their own food and to promote working together between the agriculture ministries and other departments like transportation, trade, and commerce. They want to ensure better coordination and cooperation among these different organizations. The details of the meeting will be shared in a statement to be released soon.

They agreed to strengthen security on farms by creating special teams within the Amotekun Corps. The Director-General of DAWN, Dr. Seye Oyeleye, wanted to make it clear that the South-West region is still capable of growing its own food and asked the meeting participants to come up with practical ideas that state governors can put into action in the next few months.
