Mercy Amoah, known by her stage name Ohemaa Mercy, was born in Weija, Accra.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amoah, are of Fanti origin and come from Abakrapa and Elmina. She grew up mainly in Koforidua.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Ohemaa Mercy finished her primary schooling at St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School in Koforidua and continued her education at Ghana Senior High School, which is also situated in Koforidua.

Afterwards, she continued her studies at the S.D.A Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua, where she successfully obtained her Teachers Certificate ‘A’.

CAREER

Ohemaa Mercy burst onto the music scene with her initial album, “Adamfo Papa,” which hit the market in late November 2004.

This album quickly gained widespread acclaim, thrusting Ohemaa into the limelight.

Although she was nominated for seven categories at the 2006 Ghana Music Awards, she did not secure any awards.

However, she did win the Discovery of the Year award at the Gospel Music Awards in the same year.

In 2007, this gospel singer released her second album, “Edin Jesus,” which went on to become the top-selling album of the year, selling 875,000 copies within six months of its release.

This accomplishment earned her ten nominations at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards, a record-breaking number of nominations at that time.

She emerged victorious at the awards ceremony, claiming three titles: Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Gospel Album of the Year.

In that particular year, she was also honored with a prestigious Grand Medal at the National Honours Award by the former President of Ghana, John Kufuor. In 2010-11, Ohemaa Mercy released her third album, “Wobeye Kese,” which once again achieved immense success and topped the music charts, becoming the best-selling album in the country. Just four months after its release, this album garnered her four nominations at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards.

Her talent and achievements continued to be recognized both in Ghana and internationally.

She was crowned Gospel Artiste of the Year in both Ghana and Canada during the same year.

Furthermore, she received a nomination for Best Female Artiste West Africa at the Africa Gospel Music Awards held in London.

Ohemaa Mercy’s track “Ote Me Mu,” featuring MOG music, was honored with the title of “Gospel Song of the Year” at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 23.

She has gained a loyal group of fans due to her thrilling performances on stage, which are not only loved for her music but also for her captivating live performances.

PERSONAL LIFE

Ohemaa Mercy and Isaac Twum-Ampofom are in a joyful marriage and have children.

They tied the knot in 2002 and have been happily together ever since.
