Nollywood actress and producer Mary Njoku has criticized her colleague Merit Gold for her comments directed at wives.
Naija traffic had reported that Merit Gold, an up-and-coming actress, recently shared her thoughts on cheating, stating that secretly helping one’s family without a husband’s consent is a form of infidelity.“Assisting your family secretly without your husband’s consent is also cheating” – Actress Merit Gold .
She emphasized that a husband has paid a woman’s bride price, implying ownership.
However, Mary Njoku, a more established actress, strongly disagreed with Merit’s view, sarcastically suggesting that even greeting one’s mother without permission could be considered cheating by Merit’s standards.
“Greeting your mother without his consent is cheating too. He paid in full. As all of us don dey ment na”.
Alot of positive comments trailed her post;
One Ego Umez wrote, “Don’t mind her; some of them will even make their husbands wonder if they’ve got anything left up there
One Kayz Bae22 wrote, “I tire. What if he is assisting his family without his wife’s consent
One MS_Lotee wrote, “Omor na mental case start to dry craze. Even head of house needs some mentoring too. As na human beings dem be oh!
One Hajia Yunusa1 wrote, “Serious one
One Elegant Veemart wrote, “Exactly. Even asking them how they’re doing is cheating as well”.
Recall that Mary Njoku, had recently spoken out against the tendency of Nigerians to blame and criticize grieving widows, citing examples such as the wives of Junior Pope and Mohbad.
She questioned why people often shift the blame to the wife, even in cases where the husband’s death is clearly an accident, like a plane crash.
This is not the first time she has addressed this issue, as she previously spoke out against the victim-blaming mentality in the case of Moyo Lawal’s sex tape scandal.
Mary Njoku is advocating for a shift in perspective, where people offer support and condolences instead of criticism and blame.
