CrowdStrike’s cybersecurity software is widely used across various industries, including airlines, hospitals, and retailers, to prevent hacks and data breaches.
The firm’s statement comes in the wake of a global IT outage experienced earlier today.
This incident disrupted airline operations in multiple countries, including Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Australia. Media, train, and banking services were also affected.
Addressing the issue, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz stated that the cause of the problem has been identified and a solution has been implemented.
“CrowdStrike is actively collaborating with customers affected by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” Kurtz said. “Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed.”
Kurtz added, “We advise customers to check the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide comprehensive updates on our website. We also recommend that organizations communicate with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels.”
CrowdStrike assured that it is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of its customers.
In a related statement, Microsoft explained that a configuration change in part of their Azure backend workloads caused an interruption between storage and compute resources, leading to connectivity failures affecting downstream Microsoft 365 services.
Microsoft reported that some of its affected services are fully restored as the underlying cause of the outage has been resolved, but noted that residual impacts are still affecting some customers.
