Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, announced that petrol production at his refinery was disrupted due to a fire incident.
Initially, Dangote had stated on May 18 that the refinery would start producing petrol that month, aiming to eliminate the need for Nigeria to import the product. However, on June 11, he mentioned that due to a minor delay, the start of petrol supply was postponed to July.
Addressing journalists at his refinery in Lagos on Saturday, Dangote, Africa’s richest man, confirmed that premium motor spirit (PMS) would be ready by August.
“PMS was scheduled to be available by July, but we experienced a fire incident,” he said. “This incident caused a few days’ delay, but by the latest August 10 or 12, PMS will be ready.”
The fire occurred on June 26 at a section of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Anthony Chiejina, a spokesperson for Dangote Industries Limited, informed Naija traffic that the fire happened at the effluent treatment plant (ETP).
An ETP is a specialized wastewater treatment method designed to purify industrial wastewater for reuse, ensuring that the water released into the environment is safe from the harmful effects of effluent.
