Improved digital connectivity will make Edo hub for technological advancement, says ESIPO MD

Kelvin Uwaibi, managing director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), believes that enhanced digital connectivity can transform Edo State into a technological hub.

In a press briefing in Benin, Uwaibi highlighted that Governor Godwin Obaseki has made digital infrastructure a priority, recognizing its essential role in modern economic growth. He noted that the governor’s tech-focused initiatives have empowered residents, increased transparency, and positively impacted business practices.

Uwaibi pointed out that the state’s economic development and infrastructure improvement, along with the establishment of the public-private partnership (PPP) office, is a strategic move.

“Governor Obaseki’s executive order on Right of Way (RoW) sets a maximum fee of NGN145 per linear meter for broadband deployment and establishes a streamlined process for obtaining RoW approvals within 30 days,” Uwaibi explained.

“This measure simplifies and regulates broadband deployment, encourages investment in digital infrastructure, and ensures timely processing of applications. By promoting widespread access to broadband services, the order aims to enhance technological infrastructure, boost business operations, and support the state’s economic development.

“Improved digital connectivity will attract more businesses to the state, fostering innovation and establishing Edo as a hub for technological advancement.”

Uwaibi emphasized ESIPO’s commitment to attracting private investments and managing risks through the PPP office, aiming to boost economic growth and infrastructure development.

“The PPP office is responsible for identifying, facilitating, and promoting PPP projects, conducting feasibility studies, engaging private investors, ensuring transparent project selection, and monitoring project implementation,” Uwaibi said. “By attracting private investments and managing risks effectively, the PPP office aims to drive economic growth and infrastructure development. This initiative will create new jobs, improve public services, and develop critical infrastructure, all of which are vital for the state’s long-term prosperity.”

Uwaibi also described Governor Obaseki’s six executive orders as a comprehensive strategy to improve the ease of doing business in Edo State.

“These orders address key areas such as grievance redress, digital infrastructure, public-private partnerships, responsible agricultural investments, open governance, and simplified tax regimes,” he noted. “As these policies are implemented, Edo State is set to become a model of economic development and good governance, attracting investments, promoting sustainable growth, and improving the quality of life for all its citizens.”
