Group Has Pledge To Address Malnutrition And Food Insecurity Through Collective Action

The Forum of Chairpersons of Committees on Nutrition and Food Security in Nigeria has vowed to tackle the worsening food crisis by collaborating with stakeholders to find solutions to malnutrition and food insecurity.

The group aims to develop a unified legislative approach through effective laws, policies, and programs at both national and state levels.

Following the inauguration of the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security, Tolulope Ige was elected as the National Coordinator/Chairman.

The forum emphasizes the need for collective action with stakeholders, policymakers, and representatives from various sectors to combat malnutrition and food insecurity.

In his acceptance speech, Ige stressed the importance of collaboration and pledged to work diligently to achieve the forum’s objectives, noting that malnutrition and food insecurity pose a significant threat to Nigeria’s socio-economic development and have become an existential threat.

He said, “The National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security aims to foster a unified legislative approach to nutrition and food security challenges, ensuring that effective laws, policies, and programs are enacted and implemented at both national and state levels.

“The network will collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, international bodies, and other relevant stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise”

Ige expressed gratitude to the members for their trust in him and pledged to work collaboratively with them to eradicate malnutrition and ensure food security in Nigeria.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, represented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, highlighted the crucial role of legislative bodies in enacting laws that promote nutritional well-being and food security.

He commended the formation of the network and the forum’s leadership, urging them to work tirelessly towards achieving zero hunger by 2030.

The forum’s executive members include Maina Garbu, Jude Umennajiego, Ahmed Ibrahim, Adesanya Oluseun, Umukoro Perkins, and Naalong Daniel as Vice Chairmen, with Dr. Sulaiman Fana as Secretary, Sale Jibir as Treasurer, Moses Essien as Public Relations Officer, and Onyebuchi Ogbadu as Financial Secretary.
