Meeting between 36 state governors, NSA over upcoming nationwide protest

Recently, all 36 state governors engaged in discussions with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, regarding concerns about upcoming nationwide protests against the government, set to commence on August 1st.

This gathering occurred amidst escalating concerns about possible unrest nationwide. Following the meeting held on Wednesday night, a statement was issued detailing the governors’ deliberations on various matters.

The National Security Adviser shared intelligence reports with the governors, underscoring a rising sense of discontent and the potential for widespread protests.

They collectively acknowledged the necessity of strengthening security measures nationwide. The NSA pledged to aid the governors in improving security within their states.

The communique stated, “The NSA is committed to supporting the governors in improving security architecture at the subnational level. The governors thanked the NSA and reinstated their commitment to enhance the security of lives and properties at the subnational level.”

The governors received updates on a Supreme Court ruling regarding local government finances from state attorneys general. The Nigerian Bar Association met with the governors to introduce its new leadership and express its dedication to collaboration with the states.

Additionally, the Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, briefed the governors on advancements in healthcare services nationwide. They also greeted the new World Bank Country Director, Mr. Ndiame Diop, who presented development support plans for the states.
