Access Bank is offering free fibroid surgeries to 100 women as part of its second nationwide Fibroid Awareness Campaign, under its CSR initiative, Project 111.
Led by Access Bank’s Retail Banking Group Team, Project 111 focuses on raising awareness about fibroids and providing essential support to women in Nigeria.
Deputy Managing Director of Retail, Chizoma Okoli, emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that while 70-80% of women will develop fibroids, only 38% are aware of available treatments.
“At Access Bank, our responsibility goes beyond banking. We are committed to the well-being of our customers and communities. This campaign reflects our dedication to supporting women’s health and ensuring they have the resources and information they need. This year, we aim to reach 100,000 women, offering 500 free diagnostic tests and providing surgeries for 100 women in need,” Okoli said.
The bank’s Group Head, Consumer Banking, Njideka Esomeju, added that the campaign includes free fibroid screenings and community health talks across 20 states.
“As part of our kickoff activities for the second Fibroid campaign, we are providing free fibroid screenings and community health talks across 20 states. Together, we can make a significant impact by spreading knowledge, encouraging early diagnosis, and offering much-needed support,” Esomeju said.
She reiterated the bank’s commitment to improving women’s health, noting that the project aims to treat one woman at a time, thereby positively affecting her family and future generations.
Since its launch, the initiative has made considerable progress. During its pilot phase, it reached 17,266 women across 33 countries, with 156 receiving proper diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
One beneficiary, Hannatu Botsha, expressed her gratitude for the bank covering her surgery costs. “I’m deeply thankful to the Retail team,” she said. “Initially hesitant to apply, I eventually did and underwent surgery on March 29, emerging healthy and victorious.”
Access Bank reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing women’s health through targeted initiatives like Project 111, aiming to positively impact families and future generations.
