Suwaiba Abdullahi, a nursing mother from the Federal Capital Territory, shared her motivations for participating in the hunger protest alongside her vulnerable three-month-old baby, despite the potential dangers.
She expressed outrage over the country’s severe economic struggles, which prompted her to join the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria movement launched on August 1, 2024.
By bringing her infant to the protest, Abdullahi sought to highlight the desperate situation faced by many Nigerians, emphasizing that the nation’s hardship had become intolerable.
Abdullahi said, “ The hardship in the land made me come outside. The hardship is unbearable. Things are too expensive in the market. To feed is a problem and we say we have a government? The president must listen to the cries of the citizens.“
At least 17 people lost their lives in various states, including Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna, and Jigawa, during the nationwide #Endbadgovernance protest on Thursday.
The fatalities included one person each in Abuja and Kano, two in Jigawa, six in Niger, four in Borno, and three in Kaduna, all allegedly at the hands of security forces.
The protest, which swept across Nigeria, was a manifestation of the citizens’ growing frustration with the country’s worsening economic conditions, as reported by Naijatraffic.
