Nigeria’s Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that the country’s power sector achieved a mile ccstone of 5,105 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation on July 27, the highest in three years. Speaking at the inaugural inter-ministerial power sector working group meeting in Abuja, Adelabu emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting an improvement from the previous capacity of around 4,000MW.
The minister set a target of 6,000MW generation and transmission by December, stressing the importance of collaboration among ministries to attain this goal. He highlighted the power ministry’s partnerships with other ministries, including environment, water resources, budget and planning, and petroleum resources, to achieve a comprehensive approach to power generation and distribution.
Adelabu emphasized the need for sustainable energy solutions, focusing on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and small dams. He assured that the government’s efforts would not only focus on generation and transmission but also prioritize electricity distribution to Nigerian households.
