Amnesty International calls on the federal government to release all protesters held in custody for involving in the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began from August 1 to August 10.
The organization criticized President Bola Tinubu’s government for what it described as “reckless” attempts to prosecute protesters on charges of treason.
In a tweet, Amnesty International rebuked the allegations as “absurd” and a deliberate move to quash dissent. The purpose of the protest was intended to highlight the effects of the poverty on the individuals and shortcomings in governance.
It was due to the protest that some individuals were apprehended and held in custody of the police.
Amnesty International wrote, “President Bola Tinubu’s reckless attempts to charge those who protested against widespread poverty with ‘treason’ is beyond absurd.”
The protests, which are aimed to demand for a good governance and seek for solutions to the societal problems such poverty, unemployment, and corruption have received a lot of support from different civil society groups.

Amnesty International has continuously urged the government to respect the citizen’s right to demonstrate peacefully and to release those individuals detained unlawfully.
