The African National Congress (ANC) has explained the recent statement of President Cyril Ramaphosa about South Africa’s revised visa policy for Nigerian travellers.
Last week, Ramaphosa said that during the visa application process, Nigerian aspirants are requested to submit just a copy of passport, with the original document submitted later on.
This changes was to make travelling easier but it have been misinterpreted as Nigerians could travel to South Africa without their passports.
Regarding the issue, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula stated that the changes have intentionally been misrepresented.
He noted that South Africa is not a place for lawlessness. He said, “We make it abundantly clear: South Africa is not a playground for lawlessness.
“The relaxation of visa requirements does not equate to entry without passports. There has been a clear distortion of the President’s words.”
He revealed that this measure was to strengthen ties between the two countries while upholding strict immigration regulations.
