APC begins moves to end vicious cycle of Igbo marginalisation – Ganduje

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is taking steps to address the marginalization of the Igbo people in Nigerian politics, according to party chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

He notes that despite their substantial support for the party and the current administration, Igbos have been marginalized in Nigeria’s political landscape.

At the APC South East zonal meeting in Abakaliki, Chairman Ganduje acknowledged the significant support Igbos have given the party and President Tinubu’s administration.

While distinguishing between marginalization and the region’s relatively low performance within the party, he announced the APC’s commitment to ending the cycle of marginalization and promoting greater inclusivity for the South East region.

“The present appointments offered the zone by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is heartwarming and with more involvement in the party’s affairs, more would be achieved.

We must break this cycle of marginalisation with determination, unity and total support to the party and President Bola Tinubu-led administration,’ he said.

Ganduje expressed appreciation for the efforts of Ebonyi State, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, in actively promoting the APC’s activities, similar to Imo State’s efforts, and commended the governor for upholding the party’s principles in the state.

“The challenge before us presently is how to claim Anambra, Enugu and Abia and must get all stakeholders together to achieve this goal.”

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State expressed gratitude to the party leaders for convening the meeting in his state, highlighting that the APC has firmly established itself in Ebonyi and the entire South East region. He attributed this success to the state’s inclusive policies, which have united all stakeholders under the APC umbrella.

“The massive defection of opposition stakeholders to APC on July 13 attests to the fact that persuasion works more than bickering and fighting,” he said.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State noted that it is an unfortunate coincidence that the APC is in power during a period of global economic downturn, which has resulted in widespread hardship and poverty for many Nigerians, with some even falling into extreme poverty.

“People have to know that there is a global economic meltdown with some currencies exchanging 15,000 and 20,000 for one dollar.

“I, however, have hope that if the tested policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, are well implemented, Nigerians would receive the much-needed succour,” he said.

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, encouraged the people of the South East zone to support and align themselves with the federal government’s initiatives aimed at addressing the region’s marginalization and promoting greater inclusion.

“President Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the vote cast for him during the elections.

“It is presently left for us to repay him for his good works because when one shows appreciation, he gets more,” he said.

“The process for the Southeast Development Commission bill which would solve the numerous challenges confronting Igbos, has been finalised and awaiting the president’s accent,” he said.

He pointed out that President Bola Tinubu has appointed individuals from the Igbo community to prominent positions in his administration, including ministerial roles and the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and representation.
