APC members decry hunger, join PDP in Ondo

Date:

Yesterday, in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, a significant number of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) members defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

The defectors cited the absence of internal democracy within the APC, as well as the prevalent hunger and hardship in the state, as their motivations for joining the PDP.

Several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure, including APC Ward 8 Leader Deborah Owosusi, Ademola Ayonijebu, Mayowa Boboye, Oloro Alejo, and Azeez Ibrahim, led the Ebira community in defecting to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). They pledged their support for the PDP’s governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi. Akinwande Fayinminu, the APC Organising Secretary in Akure South, speaking on behalf of the defectors, cited ongoing deceit and deception within the APC as detrimental to their personal growth as politicians and harmful to internal democracy within the party.

Ajayi, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), acknowledged the widespread suffering, hunger, and frustration caused by the mismanagement of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state. He promised that if elected, his administration would offer a better alternative and work towards the transformation of the state.

Tola Alabere, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, emphasized that the PDP welcomes new members and assured the defectors that they would be treated equally alongside other PDP members.

The PDP’s National Working Committee has given the go-ahead for the formation of new Governorship Election National Campaign Councils for the upcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states. The inauguration of these councils will take place today at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, with the aim of ensuring victory in the elections.

All leaders, stakeholders, and members of the campaign councils for Edo and Ondo states are advised to take note of this and act accordingly.
