APPLY: World Bank Group opens application for young professionals programme

Date:

The World Bank Group has announced the opening of applications for its Young Professionals Programme (YPP). According to a statement released on Thursday, the application period will start on September 1, 2024, and will remain open until 11:59 pm on September 30.

The programme seeks to recruit young professionals from diverse academic and professional backgrounds that align with the operations of the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

The WBG YPP is a two-year leadership development initiative that begins with a five-year employment contract with either the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA. Selected candidates will start the programme in Washington DC, where they will undergo intensive training both on the job and in the classroom. This training will cover the fundamentals of leadership and development operations across the institutions.

“YPs are full-time employees, making significant contributions to their respective unit’s work program while building networks and knowledge across the Bank Group through the YPP,” the organisers stated. “They often participate in field missions, working on the frontlines of WBG operations and directly engaging with clients.”

The YPP curriculum aims to develop foundational knowledge and leadership competencies. Activities include leadership and professional development workshops, networking, mentorship, and conversations with WBG leadership. The training covers the policies, products, and operations of the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA, ensuring that YPs learn how to implement joint WBG solutions to development challenges and retain this knowledge for future use.
