On Thursday, Dr. Henry Ijabo, the State Epidemiologist, revealed to journalists that the Benue State Government has confirmed four fatalities resulting from suspected cholera cases.
Additionally, he reported that 16 suspected cases of the disease have been identified, specifically in the local government areas of Agatu, Otukpo, and Ado within the state.
The epidemiologist , “The death in suspected cases is four, mind you, it’s suspected cases. We don’t have confirmed cases in Benue yet.
“All that we have are suspected cases. Out of the 16 suspected cases, four died, they exhibited symptoms that are keeping with cholera but not confirmed.”
Dr. Ijabo clarified that the four fatalities occurred while the investigation was still in progress.
According to experts, cholera is a waterborne disease that thrives in environments with poor sanitation and disrupted access to clean drinking water.
Currently, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the presence of cholera in 115 Local Government Areas across 32 states, highlighting the widespread nature of the outbreak.
