Nollywood actress Bimpe Akintunde has responded to the backlash she faced after commenting on skit maker Mr Macaroni’s post about the controversy surrounding Toyin Abraham.
Bimpe had shared her opinion on the matter, which sparked a wave of criticism and “dragging” from social media users, prompting her to address the issue and defend her stance.
Toyin Abraham faced intense backlash on Wednesday after allegedly arresting a social media user who had been trolling her, and holding them in police custody for a period of time.
The situation escalated when another troll claimed that Toyin had also detained their mother, which she denied. In response, many Nigerians reported her to Netflix, calling for her movies to be removed from the platform.
Skitmaker Mr Macaroni had criticized Toyin Abraham for arresting a Twitter user who trolled her, suggesting she should have taken legal action instead.
Bimpe Akintunde, unaware of the context, commented on Mr Macaroni’s post with a seemingly innocuous message, but was met with backlash from netizens.
In response, Bimpe explained that people become emotionally invested when family is involved and urged others to respect boundaries and mind their own business.
She revealed she was initially unaware of the situation and had to seek clarity from others, even receiving a threatening message from a troll.
Bimpe concluded by expressing her prayers for Toyin Abraham, lamenting the harsh criticism she faced.
She wrote;
