At the court session on Tuesday, Gambaryan, who was brought in a wheelchair, stood up and walked slowly into the dock.
Ogechi Ujam, counsel for the EFCC, informed the court that the continuation of the trial was scheduled, but the commission’s lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, was not present.
Ujam requested that the court stand down the case to allow Iheanacho to conduct the trial.
Neither Babatunde Fagbohunlu, representing Binance, nor Mark Mordi, Gambaryan’s counsel, opposed this request.
Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite granted the request and stepped down the matter.
On May 23, Gambaryan had collapsed in court due to ill health.
On May 27, his law firm warned that Gambaryan’s condition could worsen and potentially lead to his death if he remained in the Kuje correctional center.
Mordi asked the court to summon the medical doctor from Kuje prison to explain why the defendant’s medical report had not been released despite a previous court order.
On July 5, the judge ordered the prison management to release Gambaryan’s medical certificate by July 16.
