He has successfully hosted widely attended stand-up comedy shows such as Bovi: Man on Fire in various countries worldwide.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Bovi Ugboma was born in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, on September 25, 1979.

He attended UNIBEN staff school for his primary education. In 1991, he was enrolled in Government College, Ughelli in Delta State.

Due to disciplinary reasons and concerns from his parents about his development as a youth, he was taken out of boarding school and transferred to Edokpolor grammar school in Benin City, where they resided.

However, this change did not prove to be successful, and he subsequently moved to his third secondary school, Boys model secondary school, located in Onicha Olona, which was an all boarding school.

After completing his secondary education, he gained admission to Delta State University in 1998, where he pursued a degree in Theatre Arts. 

CAREER

Bovi started his professional journey in April 2007 when he took on the lead role in the television series Extended Family.

Additionally, he was responsible for writing and producing the show. It gained significant popularity and garnered a dedicated fan base.

Bovi quickly rose to prominence in the comedy scene in Nigeria, performing in various comedy shows and events across the country.

He made his debut in the popular comedy franchise, Night of a thousand laughs, organized by Opa Williams.

By 2011, he became the headliner of the show, performing in different cities.

His first solo comedy special took place at the Eko convention center, and he followed it up with a sequel in 2014.

The 2014 special, titled Bovi: Man on Fire, featured international stars Ja Rule and Ashanti.

Bovi then took his one-man show to several cities around the world, including the United States, London, Melbourne, Kiev, Brisbane, Sydney, Moscow, and Toronto.

After a three-year break following the 2014 edition, the Man on Fire franchise returned to Lagos and became the most successful yet.

The fourth edition of the show in Lagos is scheduled for April 2019, and Bovi has announced that it will be the last in the Man on Fire series.

He has also revealed that his next special will have a different title. In 2018, Bovi started a series called “BACK TO SCHOOL,” which he uploads on his YouTube channel.

Throughout his career, Bovi has collaborated with other Nigerian comedians such as I Go Dye, I Go Save, Basketmouth, Buchi, Odogwu, Okey Bakassi, Julius Agwu, and many more.

Bovi premiered his debut film, It’s Her Day, on September 9, 2016. The movie achieved a box office gross of 55 million Naira in Nigeria. In the same year, he took on the lead role in the romantic comedy, 4-1-Love.

In 2017, Bovi received a nomination for the AMVCA awards in the category of best actor in comedy.

This marked his third individual nomination since the establishment of the AMVCA and his fourth nomination overall.

Despite limited mainstream publicity, the movie had a decent run in theaters and earned 55 million Naira at the box office.

In 2020, Bovi played the role of a police officer in the remake of the popular Nollywood film, Nneka the Pretty Serpent.

Additionally, he wrote, co-produced, and starred in his second film, My Village People.

This movie became one of the 17 Nigerian films to surpass the 100 million Naira mark in the local box office.

In July 2022, Bovi successfully held his latest comedy special, Bovi- Naughty By Nature, in Lagos. The show was completely sold out two days before the event.

PERSONAL LIFE

Bovi and Kris Asimonye Ugboma are in a joyful marriage and have three children together.

In early January 2022, Kris underwent surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy that caused damage to one of her fallopian tubes.

On September 19, 2022, the couple celebrated their 13th anniversary, with Bovi expressing his admiration for his wife’s ability to keep him in check and for being the mother of their children for a total of 27 months.
