After the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Monday Okpebholo as the victor of the Edo governorship election, former President Muhammadu Buhari extended his congratulations.
Buhari, in his message to the All Progressives Congress candidate, hailed the victory as a significant moment in history.
The former President conveyed optimism that the incoming administration under Okpebholo’s leadership would prioritize the welfare of the Edo populace.
He expressed confidence that the new government would collaborate with various stakeholders to bolster democracy and uphold the progress and advancement of the state.
He also praised the citizens of Edo State and the electoral commission for their diligent execution of responsibilities during the electoral process.
Okpebholo emerged victorious in the Edo gubernatorial election held on Saturday, September 21, after surpassing his primary rivals from the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.
The APC contender secured 291,667 votes, with Asue Ighodalo of the PDP receiving 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the LP coming in third with 22,763 votes.
