CCTV footage of the arrest of lawyer Dele Farotimi revealed

The 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, revealed on X a video that showed the exact moment Farotimi was taken into custody by the Ekiti state police command in Lagos.

He was arrested over Criminal Libel. He was accused of slandering the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa Group, Tony Elumelu.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has ordered for the release of Farotimi form the police custody. He stated that such offense is no longer considered as criminal offense in Lagos State.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has criticized the police for arresting Farotimi while libel is not considered as a criminal offense.

NBA criticized the invasion of Farotimi’s law firm and the harassment of lawyers and staffs in the office.

On Tuesday, in a statement issued by NBA President, Afam Osigwe, “These actions constitute a troubling breach of the rule of law and the sanctity of the legal profession.”
