Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel, better known as Chinko Ekun, was born on September 13, 1993, is a Nigerian artist specializing in rap music and songwriting.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

He obtained his degree in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University.Chinko Ekun is from Ikare, Ondo State, Nigeria, and grew up in Ikeja, Lagos State.

He is the second of three siblings. He attended Blessing Nursery and Primary School, Remade Nursery and Primary School, and Baptist Model High School in Ijegun for his education.

Upon graduating in law from Obafemi Awolowo University, he completed his National Youth Service Corps in Lagos State.

Chinko Ekun discovered his passion for music at the age of 7 and began pursuing commercial and rap music during his university years.

CAREER

He officially entered the music industry in 2011, starting with freestyle videos on Instagram before releasing his debut track “Ekun” in 2013.

In 2014, he collaborated with Olamide on multiple tracks from the “Street OT” album and showcased his talent at Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC) that year.

Known for his versatile style, Chinko Ekun raps in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, with a focus on hip hop music.

His stage name “Chinko Ekun” combines “Chinko,” inspired by a comparison to a Chinese person during his university days, and “Ekun,” from his first official track.

After joining Olamide’s YBNL Nation in 2015, he released debut singles “Alejo Oran” and “Emi Na Re.”

Upon leaving YBNL in 2016, he signed with Dek-Niyor Entertainment in 2017.

Chinko Ekun gained recognition in 2018 with the release of “Able God,” featuring Zlatan and Lil Kesh, earning him the “Best Street Hop Artiste” award at The Headies 2019.

The song also won “Street Song of the Year” at the 2019 City People Music Awards.

Since the success of “Able God,” Chinko Ekun has collaborated on various tracks and released singles including “Mafo,” “Party Animals,” “Doings” featuring Zlatan, “Jafa,” and his latest track “Wait” featuring Big Ozed, released on February 29, 2024.

PERSONAL LIFE

During the SummerJam 2022 conference at Pastor Bolaji Idowu’s Harvester’s Church in Lagos state, Chinko Ekun shared a difficult period in his life following a fallout with his record label, Dek-Niyor Entertainment.

He disclosed losing his deal, possessions, royalties, and going through a breakup that led him to contemplate suicide.
