The Federal Government has set a goal to convert 250,000 vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by the end of 2024 to boost CNG utilization in Nigeria.
To kickstart this initiative, 30,000 CNG conversion kits have already been procured for distribution to commercial drivers within 90 days.
Michael Oluwagbemi, Chief Executive Officer and Programme Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), shared this information with Energy Vanguard during the Park-to-Park CNG Conversion Mobilisation in Lagos.
“We have covered over 14 states, including Ilorin, Ekiti, Lokoja, Aba, and Port Harcourt, reaching the South-East and even the North. We are confident that we have established a national movement for this conversion,” Oluwagbemi said.
“The government aims to achieve one million vehicle conversions by the end of the year, which is feasible given the substantial investment in this project.
“Now, we need action, which is why we are here today. We are implementing President’s directive to roll out quickly. This is the time for Nigeria to utilize gas. Despite potential challenges, we must support this initiative and remain positive. This is our country, and we need to support this programme and the President’s vision.”
