Comedian Dee One has expressed his discontent and frustration triggered by Davido and Chioma’s wedding, emphasizing the significance of preserving cultural heritage and traditional values.
He stated that upon hearing about Davido and Chioma’s wedding, he expected the ceremony to take place in Chioma’s hometown, as is customary in Igbo culture, but was apparently disappointed that this tradition was not followed.
Dee One was taken aback when the wedding took place in Lagos, contrary to his expectation of it being held in Chioma’s hometown, and he noted that Chioma’s family had to travel to Lagos for the ceremony, which he seemed to disapprove of, as it went against his understanding of traditional Igbo customs.
He further criticized the family for not considering the economic benefits of hosting the wedding in Chioma’s hometown in the East, which would have generated significant revenue and boosted the local economy.
He sarcastically remarked that the Igbo people often claim to be business-oriented, but this decision contradicts that notion, implying that they missed an opportunity to support their own local economy.
Comedian Dee One sparked controversy by suggesting that wealth trumps tradition, implying that only the rich can disregard cultural norms.
He claimed that Igbo culture has a double standard, with one set of rules for the wealthy and another for the poor.
He cited Davido’s decision to host his wedding in Lagos, rather than Chioma’s hometown, as an example of how wealth and status can override traditional expectations.
Despite Dee One’s criticisms, the wedding was a grand success, attended by dignitaries including the Lagos State Governor, Sanwo Olu, and Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Ogun State, who was seen dancing with his nephew in a viral video.
