The Federal High Court in Kaduna has rejected jurisdiction in a lawsuit filed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
He was seeking to overturn the Adhoc Committee report of the Kaduna State House of Assembly. Judge R.M. Aikawa stated that El-Rufai’s application did not meet the necessary criteria for the court to set aside the report.
The court also dismissed El-Rufai’s request for the judge to recuse himself, citing a lack of convincing reasons or facts.
So instead of dismissing or striking out the case as requested by both sides, the court decided it didn’t have the right to handle it. Justice Aikawa transferred the lawsuit to the Chief Judge of Kaduna State for review by the High Court of Kaduna State.
Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and Sani Katu, also a SAN, represented the first party. The Attorney General of Kaduna State, Sule Shuaibu, SAN, and Jummai Danazumi, Esq., represented the second party.
