The Labour Party in Cross River State faced another problem as Brian Odey, who represents Yala State Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, switched sides. This switch happened because of a fight for control within the party.
At a big event in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) officially welcomed Odey and other defectors over the weekend.
Brian Odey’s move is a big deal in politics and makes the Labour Party weaker as they head towards the Council elections on October 25, 2024. Besides Odey, Martins Achadu, who represents Yala State Constituency 2, also joined the APC in Ijiraga Ward.
These moves have stirred up trouble within the Labour Party, which is having problems due to internal disagreements led by Ogar Osim and John Ushie.
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, sees these defections as a significant win for the APC.
