A collective of various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has recently taken legal action by filing a lawsuit against Martin Amaewhule, who currently holds the position of Speaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Additionally, the lawsuit includes 24 other lawmakers as defendants in the case.
On Friday, the CSOs lodged the lawsuit at the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court. Their primary objective is to obtain a court declaration that would result in the lawmakers’ seats being declared vacant due to their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The court proceedings have already begun, and our correspondent is actively monitoring the case. During the court session, a dramatic incident unfolded as two lawyers engaged in a heated argument regarding the representation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the case.
The PDP had made an application to be included as a party in the matter, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) also sought to be joined in the proceedings.
