Customers’ data not affected’ — GTB says hackers tried to compromise website

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) Ltd has addressed concerns about a potential website compromise, assuring customers that their data remains secure. Reports had circulated about a possible hacking incident involving the bank’s domain, sparking worries among customers.

However, GTB has clarified that while there was an attempt to compromise its website domain, no customer data was affected. The bank emphasized that it does not store customer information on its website, ensuring the safety of sensitive data.

A team of information security experts is working to resolve the issue and restore the website. GTB has urged customers to disregard the reports and assured them of its commitment to protecting their data.

This incident comes amid a rising trend of fraud in Nigeria’s financial sector, with losses increasing by N14.71 billion (83%) between 2019 and 2023, according to a report by SB Morgen Intelligence.
