Customs service transfers over multi-million naira cannabis cache to NDLEA

Date:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger-Kogi Command, seized and transferred a large quantity of 283 packages of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Minna, Niger State.

The confiscated cannabis, valued at around ₦5.6 million in duties, showcases the Command’s progress in combating illegal drug trafficking.

Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke of the Niger-Kogi Command shared information about the seizure, highlighting it as part of the continuous efforts to address unlawful practices within the command’s area of responsibility.

“Our team’s resilience and dedication to protecting our borders from illicit trafficking have yielded significant results,” Chibuoke mentioned that his team had seized nine vehicles worth more than ₦170 million in the last four weeks.

The transfer to the NDLEA highlights the significance of different agencies working together to tackle drug trafficking issues in Nigeria. Shehu Gwadabawa, the Niger State Commander of the NDLEA, accepted the cannabis on behalf of the agency.

Gwadabawa commended the Customs Command, stating “Such teamwork between the NDLEA and Customs is essential to prevent these harmful substances from reaching our communities.”

Chibuoke guaranteed that officers showing outstanding dedication to their roles would be recognized and rewarded under the Command’s incentive program. This affirms the Customs Service’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s borders from drug-related crimes.

The recent successes of the Niger-Kogi Command demonstrate a renewed determination to combat smuggling and enhance collaboration with law enforcement bodies.
