Damian Marley ‘stole’ my weed – Seun Kuti

Date:

Seun Kuti, a Nigerian afrobeat artist, has shared his experience of meeting Damian Marley, a famous reggae musician from Jamaica.

He revealed that he initially encountered Marley at a festival in France many years ago, where the reggae musician took his marijuana without permission.

During a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Kuti clarified that he had given Marley the marijuana to smoke and return to him, but Marley took advantage of the situation by keeping it after lighting it.

He said, “Damian Marley and I first met at a festival in South France. It was at the beginning of my career. He also had just released his sophomore breakthrough album, ‘Welcome To Jamrock’. We played the show together. He stole my weed. He scammed me. He said we should share it. After rolling it, I gave it to him because he insisted he would light it but after lighting it, he chanced me. I asked him to pass it back but he said he doesn’t want to share anymore.”

Kuti also discussed his recent partnership with Damian Marley on the song ‘Dey.’

He stated that in addition to being friends, their managers have strong connections.

He clarified that he shared all the songs from his upcoming album with Marley and decided to collaborate on the track ‘Dey’, which later became the main single.

The afrobeat singer stated that his upcoming album will include many famous musicians.
