Davido responds to alleged threats to cancel his December concert following an interview where he advised Black Americans against relocating to Africa.
On X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that some individuals are already planning to cancel his December 24th show due to the interview. Confidently, Davido asserted that he doesn’t require Nigerian performances.
“Dem say Dem go cancel my show cus of my interview. Lol I don’t have to perform in Nigeria”.
To recall, Davido, in a recent foreign interview, cautioned Black Americans against relocating to Africa, citing the continent’s struggling economy.
He clarified that his intention wasn’t to disparage Africa, but rather to showcase its positive aspects while omitting the impoverished areas.
However, his comments were met with criticism from individuals like Rebo Omokri, Patrick Doyle, Akashat Nymat, and others. Responding to the backlash, Davido asserted that people are upset with him because he’s the genuine ambassador.
Reno Omokri, a former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, had criticized Davido for his perceived lack of patriotism and ignorance.
Omokri pointed out the inconsistency in Davido’s claim about Nigeria’s economy, citing Wizkid’s record-breaking album “Morayo” on Spotify Nigeria.
He advised Davido to emulate Rihanna, who promotes Barbados positively worldwide.
Nymat, a TVC Your View presenter, questioned Davido’s contributions to the masses, noting that American celebrities rarely criticize their country to foreigners.
Akashat cautioned Davido to be more mindful of his statements, especially regarding the country that has brought him fame.
Paulo Okoye defended Davido, telling critics to leave him be, as he believed Davido spoke the truth.
Okoye highlighted Nigeria’s dire economic situation, citing global companies’ exodus and local businesses’ substantial losses.
He urged Nigerians to accept reality and strive for a better future.
