The Delta State Government is encouraging citizens living abroad to participate in the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative, a program under the state’s Contributory Health Scheme.
This initiative allows individuals to sponsor health insurance for disadvantaged persons.
Recently, the family of the late Joseph Erebe registered 150 individuals from Owhelogbo, Isoko-North Local Government Area, demonstrating the program’s growing support.
Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a privilege, and that philanthropic efforts towards healthcare for the vulnerable are the ultimate act of compassion.
He urged Deltans in the diaspora to join this noble cause.
He said, “Today, I want to commend the sponsors, the family of the late Elder Joseph Ubuavame Erebe, for the gesture.
“Philanthropy in healthcare provides an opportunity for people to live healthy and productive lives, to enable people to seek preventive care and avoid escalation of minor illnesses into life-threatening ones.
“The Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative is a platform where high net worth individuals could make a tangible difference by adopting vulnerable indigents and purchasing health insurance premiums at the cost of N7000 per individual.
“I’m calling on all, including those in the diaspora to key into the initiative and ensure no one is left behind, in furtherance of Universal Health Coverage”
Dr. Isaac Akpoveta expressed his gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering political commitment and financial backing to the Delta State Contributory Health Commission.
Meanwhile, Dr. James Ighoroje, representing the sponsors, commended the state government for launching programs that directly benefit the grassroots, citing it as a testament to the government’s dedication to its citizens.
The beneficiaries, who received their health insurance cards on the spot, were overwhelmed with gratitude, offering heartfelt prayers for the government and donors who made this initiative possible through their kindness and generosity.
