He was born on February 16, 1995. Curry’s passion for rapping started in sixth grade, and he began working on his first mixtape in 2011.

His musical style was influenced by underground Florida artist SpaceGhostPurrp.

After SpaceGhostPurrp shared Curry’s mixtape on social media, it gained popularity and helped him establish himself in the local music scene.

This eventually led to his involvement with the Raider Klan collective.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Denzel Curry, who comes from a diverse background of Bahamian and Native-American descent, was born on February 16, 1995, in the Carol City neighborhood of Miami Gardens, Florida.

His mother, who is a Jehovah’s Witness, worked in stadium security, while his father worked as a truck driver.

Curry’s artistic journey began during his elementary school years, where he started with poetry and eventually transitioned into rapping by the time he reached sixth grade.

He honed his skills by participating in rap battles at local Boys & Girls Clubs of America chapters.

Despite facing challenges, such as being expelled from Design and Architecture High School, Curry remained determined to pursue his passion.

He continued his education at Miami Carol City Senior High School, where he started working on his early projects, including his album “Nostalgic 64.”

In a brave move, Curry opened up about his experience of childhood molestation in a 2018 interview with The Breakfast Club.

CAREER

Denzel Curry began his music career in 2011 with the mixtape “King Remembered Underground Tape”.

He gained recognition from Odd Future and joined Raider Klan.

After the group disbanded, he released his first album “Nostalgic 64” in 2013, which was influenced by Tupac, Outkast, and southern music.

In 2015, Denzel Curry’s career took off with the release of his double EP “32 Zel/Planet Shrooms” and the viral hit “Ultimate”.

He was featured in XXL’s 2016 Freshmen Class and released his second album “Imperial”.

 In 2017, he released the EP “13” and announced his third album “Ta13oo”, which was later released in three acts: “Light”, “Gray”, and “Dark” in July 2018.

The album was supported by the singles “Sumo”, “Percs”, and “Clout Cobain”.

In 2019, Denzel Curry had several notable achievements, including an acclaimed cover of “Bulls on Parade”, the release of the singles “Ricky” and “Speedboat”, and the album “Zuu”.

He made his debut on The Tonight Show and joined the “Grey Day Tour”.

In 2020-21, he collaborated with Kenny Beats on projects, was featured on the soundtrack of Madden NFL 21, and made appearances on The Choe Show and ZillaKami’s album.

On January 5, 2022, he made an announcement about his fifth album titled “Melt My Eyez See Your Future” and shared a trailer that showcased a new style of music.

The album was released on March 25, 2022, and includes collaborations with T-Pain, 6lack, and Thundercat.

Prior to the album release, he dropped three singles called “Walkin”, “Zatoichi”, and “Troubles”, and also performed on NPR Tiny Desk and The Tonight Show.

In September 2022 and May 2023, he released an extended edition and a live project respectively.

In May 2024, Denzel Curry hinted at a new project and in June, he revealed the title “King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2” along with the lead single “Hot One”.

This album serves as a sequel to his 2012 mixtape and was officially released on July 19, 2024, with “Black Flag Freestyle” as the second single.

PERSONAL LIFE

Denzel Curry’s sibling, Treon “Tree” Johnson, passed away on February 27, 2014, due to a tragic incident involving the use of a police taser in Hialeah, Florida.
