Dikko Radda writes Tinubu, seeks handover of wind power project to Katsina

Date:

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina has formally requested that the federal government transfer control of the Lambar Rimi wind power project to the state. In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Power, Radda emphasized the potential for future advancements.

Isah Miqdad, the governor’s senior special assistant on digital media, confirmed the request in a statement on Thursday, noting, “The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has written a letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Power requesting the Federal Government to hand over the abandoned Lambar Rimi Wind Power Project to the Katsina State Government. This move signals potential progress in the near future.”

The Lambar Rimi windmill project, awarded in June 2009 by the Ministry of Power, comprises 37 turbines intended to generate 10 megawatts (MW) of electricity for Katsina state. Initially, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) set a 12-month timeline for its completion. However, a security incident in 2012 led to significant delays, causing the project to miss several deadlines.

President Tinubu recently criticized Nigeria’s power generation capacity, which stands at approximately 4.5 gigawatts (4,500 megawatts), describing it as inadequate. He called for a concerted effort among stakeholders to enhance the country’s on-grid electricity capacity.
