Doctors In Kano To Start Strike On Tuesday

Date:

The National Association of Government General and Medical Dental Practitioners in Kano has set October 1 as the date for its members to go on strike.

This decision was announced by the association’s secretary, Dr Anas Hassan, who expressed disappointment that the Kano State government had not fulfilled their demands, including hazard allowance and salaries for newly hired doctors. The medical practitioners also raised concerns about the poor state of hospitals in Kano and the lack of necessary equipment.

They highlighted the low doctor-to-patient ratio in the state, which falls below the World Health Organization’s standards. As a result of the government’s inaction, the association felt they had no choice but to go on strike.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has formed committees to address the demands of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, who have threatened to strike if their requests, including the establishment of a nursing department and improved allowance, are not met.

The efforts of the health minister to address these demands have seen some progress, but many issues remain unresolved.

Shehu said, “The minister directed those committees to swing into action immediately. For instance, a committee was formed and two of our members were included in the committee for the gazetting of schemes of service.

“The Director of Health Services and a representative of the union are going to raise a memo for the onward submission to the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
