Members of the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted a sudden operation at the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja.
Upon their unanticipated arrival, the DSS officials sought to engage with the directors of the organization. Expressing disapproval of this intrusion, the rights group utilized social media platforms to denounce the incursion and appealed for President Tinubu to intervene in the matter.
SERAP tweeted, “Officers from Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s office in Abuja, asking to see our directors.
“President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation, and attack on the rights of Nigerians.”
Following the recent detention of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero by DSS agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the incident at the SERAP office unfolded. Ajaero was apprehended as he was preparing to embark on a trip to the United Kingdom for official duties.
