The father of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, was coronated as the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community in Izzi Local Government Area.
Prominent figures including former governors, senators and local government officials attended the event.
Chief Nwifuru Nwankpu has 30 wives and 108 children and Governor Francis Nwifuru is the child of his fourth wife.
Reports have it that 21 of his children are graduates who were raised by their mothers.
He said, “My father’s decision to marry many wives was influenced by the intimidation and humiliation he endured from villagers in his quest for greatness.”
Governor Francis Nwifuru handed over a certificate and staff of office to his father stating that the coronation was performed in accordance with the law establishing Ebonyi State Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cap 146.
He recounted the challenges faced by his family including how their land was forcefully taken and the killing of his uncle. He praised his father for being a hardworking and loving father to the family and community.
He urged his father saying, “Do not use this revered position to seek revenge or perpetuate injustice. Rather, let it be a symbol of unity, fairness, and service to humanity.”
