A group of respected elders in Edo State, known as the Edo Socio-Cultural Advancement and Good Governance Initiative, were shocked and disappointed by the disrespectful behavior of some Labour Party supporters on social media. They expressed their disapproval of these actions, calling them childish and unacceptable.
The elders also supported the Oba of Benin when he corrected Olumide Akpata’s claim of being connected to the Palace. The group’s spokesperson, Comrade Melvin Irabor, shared these concerns with the press in Benin City .
He said, “Our Oba was not out of place in correcting the erroneous remarks and insinuations by the Labour Party Candidate, Barr. Olumide Akpata, for claiming to be the ‘Son of the Palace”.
The coalition expressed deep concern over disrespectful insults towards the Oba of Benin by Akpata’s supporters on social media. Irabor highlighted offensive remarks, emphasizing the Oba’s role as a unifying figure and spokesperson for the kingdom’s gods, requiring impartiality in correcting false statements or implications by social media users, including Richard Wilson calling the Oba a “useless ruler” and Evang. implying that the Oba would have been more receptive with a large sum of money.
“Every candidate contesting in this election has the support and blessings of our Oba. He is the father of all, and he wishes every one of them well,” Irabor stated.
