The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that 2,249,780 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been picked up by registered voters in Edo State in anticipation of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21.
This number accounts for 85.57% of the total 2,629,025 registered voters in the state.
Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this information in a statement released on Tuesday.
He pointed out that as of Monday, September 16, after the conclusion of the extended PVC collection period, there are still 379,245 PVCs, representing 14.43%, that have not been collected.
INEC has meticulously detailed the PVC collection data at the polling unit level in readiness for the forthcoming election.
Across Edo State, there are 4,519 polling units designated to facilitate voting on the election day. Olumekun urged political parties, candidates, and the general public to refer to the commission’s website for the extensive information, which is contained in a 128-page report.
Olumekun stated, “The data on PVC collection by polling unit has been uploaded to our website to aid political parties and candidates in their preparations.”
