Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made arrangements to charge the former governor of Kano State, Yahaya Bello, to court after detaining him.
Reports had it that the former governor of Kano State, Yahaya Bello, went into hiding since April 2024, and was finally brought by the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday at about 12:55 p.m.
The operatives of EFCC stated that Yahaya Bello was arrested contrary to the reports that he surrendered to them.
The detective said, “You think that man (Yahaya Bello) is ready to be taken to court? Your guess is as good as mine. What I can tell you is that the man was nabbed by our tactical operatives after gathering substantial intelligence.
“If he submitted himself as they are claiming, you think he wouldn’t come with the incumbent governor, Mr Usman Ododo? This insinuation that he drove himself to us should be discarded.”
Ahead of the court appearance today, the detective of the commission was questioning Yahaya Bello about the allegations of the misappropriation of funds after months of snubbing their invitation.
Recall that EFCC declared Yahaya Bello wanted on April 18, 2024, because of the N80.2 billion fraud charge. The matter heard on November 14 was adjourned to November 27(today) when EFCC counsel sought an adjournment.
EFCC noted that the 30-day window given to Yahaya Bello to reply the summons was still open.
