The official Twitter account of the EFCC, once known as @officialEFCC with 2.2 million followers, has suddenly disappeared from the platform.
This happened after cybercriminals threatened to attack the agency online because of its crackdown on online fraud.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s main spokesperson, stated that the account’s absence is due to a network problem. He assured that the agency’s IT team is actively working to fix the issue, which has been ongoing for three days.
“Our ICT department is working on it. They have been on it for almost three days now. We are hoping It will come up again,” Oyewale said to The Gazette.
The sudden vanishing of the account has led to worries about possible sabotage or penalties from X, although the exact reason is not known.
This event has stirred more debate about the EFCC’s forceful methods in fighting online fraud, which rights activists have condemned for supposedly infringing on the basic rights of citizens.
