El-Rufai appears in court over ₦432bn fraud allegations by Kaduna assembly

Date:

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, made an appearance in the Federal High Court today to show his official support for his legal case against the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the state government. He filed the lawsuit to protect his fundamental rights after being accused of financial mismanagement.

The House of Assembly has leveled allegations against Nasir El-Rufai, who served as governor for a period of eight years, claiming that his administration was involved in the misappropriation of ₦432 billion.

According to the Assembly, this alleged mismanagement has led to a significant accumulation of financial debt for the state. On Wednesday, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the legal representative of El-Rufai, lodged the fundamental rights lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

The legal team representing El-Rufai asserts that the report was compiled without affording the former governor a fair opportunity to present his side, and as a result, it should be invalidated.

The lawsuit includes the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice as respondents.
