The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has announced that the local government elections set for September 21st will happen as scheduled, putting aside any rumors of a possible postponement.
Chairman of ENSIEC, Prof. Christian Ngwu, confirmed, “The commission is following its timetable and has the necessary financial support from the state government to ensure a resounding successful polls.”
Prof. Ngwu highlighted that all logistical preparations, especially security measures, have been completed.
He said, “ENSIEC is in touch with the security agencies and other organisations that will provide support services before, during, and after the elections proper.”
The commission has arranged a three-day workshop for 50 key electoral officials to train them in preparation for the elections, aiming for a well-run polling process.
More than 10 political parties have shown interest in the elections, where there will be competitions for 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councilor seats throughout the state.
He reassured the public, “We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring proactive and adequate security for electoral materials, officials, and voters on election day.”
