Environment Ministry Signs Performance Contract With Directors To Improve Services

Date:

The Federal Ministry of Environment has initiated a performance contract with its directors to enhance service delivery, performance, and efficiency.

This development was announced by Ibrahim Haruna, the ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, on Friday through a press statement.

Following a training program for selected staff, Permanent Secretary Mahmud Kambari led the contract signing ceremony, which aimed to implement the Performance Management System and establish a Performance Management Team.

This initiative aligns with the directive of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, seeking to optimize civil service performance and ensure every officer contributes to the ministry’s mandate and national economic growth.

The contract signing took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, with plans for replication in each department to maximize workforce potential.

Kambari emphasized that the Performance Management System will facilitate staff performance evaluation and provide mentorship for effective duty delivery.

“The PMS is to bring out the best in every officer in service, in no distant time, this will replace the Aper Form where officers score themselves arbitrarily.

“The process will ensure that every officer is contributing effectively and will strive to be efficient in the attainment of all set priorities such as; Financial Priorities, Ministerial Priorities, and the Service-Wide Dimensions,” he mentioned.

The Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Kambari, praised the Performance Management System (PMS) as a commendable initiative among many innovations introduced by the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, to enhance efficiency and service delivery in the country.

Kambari emphasized that the PMS will not only improve service delivery but also evaluate officers’ performance, leading to promotions, additional responsibilities, and increased productivity.

He urged directors to delegate tasks to their deputies and staff, ensuring a trickle-down effect. The automation of the PMS in the ministry will be launched soon, and Kambari assured his support for its implementation. This will serve as a benchmark to assess staff performance and contracts.

He advised departments and units to set realistic targets in their performance contracts and strive to achieve them. Kambari promised to provide a conducive environment for effective service delivery, transparently implementing the ministry’s blueprints.

The Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Stanley Jonah, hailed the signing of the performance contract as a significant milestone in aligning with the Head of Service’s directives to boost service delivery and economic growth, echoing President Bola Tinubu’s similar performance contracts with his cabinet ministers to achieve their mandates.
